Baker McKenzie is an international law firm headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. It was founded in 1949 and now has 77 offices in 46 countries, and employs 13,000 legal and support staff across the world.
In 2017, Baker McKenzie elected to relocate from 50 Bridge Street, Sydney (now Quay Quarter Tower) to Tower One at One International Towers, Barangaroo.
Acuity was engaged by Baker McKenzie to provide project management oversight of its Sydney workplace project, which included procurement and management of the design team, as well as managing the interface between Baker McKenzie and its head contractor, MPA. Acuity also managed engagements with the asset owner Lendlease. A key challenge was the requirement to complete the design, procurement, and delivery of the project in 7 months, as Baker McKenzie was required to vacate 50 Bridge Street before the end of 2017.
Acuity established a structured project governance system from the very outset of the project that enabled clear and consistent reporting with all project stakeholders. Acuity established a design program and agreed key approval milestones with Baker McKenzie to ensure that all required timeframes could be achieved given the impending lease expiry.
Acuity ensured that the communications with Lendlease were open and transparent, given the complexities of constructing a new workplace in an operational building and directly managed the relocation of Baker McKenzie employees, files and equipment to deliver a seamless transition for all staff.
